Dylan Barry was diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, when he was 8 years-old, Aug 20 2009. Dylan and his family's journey began when they headed down to St Jude in Memphis, TN for two months. Exactly two months from today, on March 12th, they will head back down to Memphis for his last chemotherapy treatment. But it's not been an easy road for Dylan; he has 10 more years before he can actually put this all behind him.
Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or Ph+ ALL, is very rare in children, this being an adult's disease. Basically less than 5% of children are diagnosed with this and only 20-30% of Philadelphia chromosome-positive (Ph+) children with ALL are cured with chemotherapy alone.
This is a big deal for Dylan and his family.
Please keep an eye on upcoming weekly editions for more of Dylan's story, the battle that his mom has taken on for other children, and let's keep an eye on Dylan during baseball season! It's been a season that Dylan has missed for much too long and that's what he's been looking forward to the most.
