Chillicothe Optimist 2nd Annual Kids Count Day was held Sunday at IVC High School Auditorium. Over $12,000 was given away to 25 youth groups. As you probably remember, each youth program collects movie ticket stubs from the Optimist-owned Town Theatre all year and turns them in to the Optimist Club on Kids Count Day.
All ticket stubs are counted; that total number (of stubs turned in) is divided into the total amount of the Town Theatre profit. This tells us the value of each ticket stub. 7401 ticket stubs were turned in on Sunday. Each one had a value of $1.68. Twenty-five youth programs collected their share of $12,388.68, their share being determined by the number of ticket stubs they accumulated.
President Mark Kosinski and Vice-President Christy Crothers gave out the checks. South School PTA was the big winner! They had amassed nine hundred forty-four ticket stubs in
the past year. When interviewed, South School PTA designee Melissa Van Bruwaene indicated that they intended to purchase smart board document cameras for their K-3rd grade teachers with the funds…Congratulations, South School!
The big surprise of the day came when Pearce Community Center came on stage to accept their 2nd place check for $1,281.84. Ben Alvarez, speaking for the Pearce Community Center Board, donated their check back to the Chillicothe Optimist Club to be used in the purchase of a digital projector for the Town Theatre.
