IVC girl’s track

The IVC girls’ track team kept busy last week with three separate meets.
The first was a fifteen-team freshman/sophomore invitational at Lewistown last Monday, in which the girls had three second place finishes: Haley White at the triple jump (31’ 9.5” – her best jump this season), Marli Whitham at the high jump (4’ 9”), and Emily Bartlett at the 300 meter hurdles (0:51.8 – a personal record).  Kaylee Truninger also finished top three with a third place finish in the 800 meter run (2:46.2 – a personal record).

Then, on Tuesday, the Lady Ghosts hosted Notre Dame and Spring Valley Hall.  Several IVC girls earned first place finishes, including Haley White at the triple jump (31’ 9.25’’), Emma Hoerr at the shot put (35’ 1’’) and discus (105’ 7’’), Marli Whitham at the high jump (5’ 0’’), Emily Bartlett at the 100 and 300 meter hurdles (0:18.3 and 0:55.1), and Aubrey Allison at the 400 meter run (1:03.7 – a personal record).
Finally, on Thursday, the entire team traveled back to Lewistown, this time for a fifteen-team varsity invitational.  The competition was tough, and the weather made things even more difficult.  “This was an awful night to run,” commented Coach Gwen Hemstreet.  Gusts up to 30 miles per hour made sprints and relays a nightmare, particularly if you were running upwind when one hit.  Still, the Ghosts gave it their best shot.  “I was happy with our runners for competing even in the awful conditions,” said the coach. “Although the times didn’t reflect growth, their ability to run in any weather conditions was a good experience for us to have this season.”
Fortunately, the girls still fared well in Thursday’s field events.  Emma Hoerr took second place in both the shot put (37’ 7’’ – her best throw this season), and the discus (110’ 0’’).  Jameel Woods participated in the shot put as well and threw a personal best (32’ 7’’).
