Friday night the Grey Ghosts had us going to Quincy Notre Dame for our farthest football game of the season.
The first half had both teams holding each other back from the goal lines very well, until Jake Innis was able to get into the goal line with a 1 yard run.
Jesse Hall kicked the extra point bringing the score to 7-0, but that lead didn’t last long in the 2nd quarter as Quincy scored a touchdown and a good extra point within the next 3 minutes of the game.
Before IVC knew it, Quincy had the ball in the end-zone again after they had a 47 yard punt return, bringing the score to 14-7.
On the punt return IVC fumbled th ball putting Quincy in possession of the ball and bringing the score up to 21-7, as it remained until half-time.
As the 2nd half started up again Sherrar Tate was able to complete a pass to Nolan Seiler in the end-zone helping us catch up to Quincy with the score at 21-14. But Quincy quickly showed that they did not want the Grey Ghosts scoring on their field and was in the end-zone again to bring the score up to 27-14, but the extra point was blocked by Jesse Hall.
The next play had Quincy punting the ball to IVC, but IVC wasn’t able to keep their hands on the ball and fumbled the ball with Quincy recovering it. Senior Tommy Jenkins was able to block a pass forcing a turnover.
Quincy quickly recovered from their mistake and intercepted a pass leading them to a touch-down and a two-point conversion. With the score at 35-14, IVC knew they had to make a good play. Senior Jake Innis was able to make just that play with a 91 yard punt return for a touchdown bringing the score to 35-21.
Before the game was over Quincy was able to run over the line one more time and kick the last extra point bringing the final score to 42-12. IVC is now at a record of 3-3 for the season. Next week we go head-to-head with Peoria Notre Dame.
